The Great Commission

Matthew 28:18

The Great Commission tells Christians to go to all nations, baptizing them and teaching them. Special power is promised to those who carry out this command. If you're not carrying out the command, you have no claim to the power.

In the 1940s and 1950s, Fundamentalists were charged with having no social concerns. Our source of authority, the Bible, doesn't speak of social welfare as being part of the Christian experience. Each individual believer is to do good to all men, which is part of working out your own salvation (Matthew 5:16). It should be an individual thing, not part of the organized church.

As part of the New Testament church we have a responsibility to our own church family, not to the world at large (Acts 4:32-35; 6:1-3; 11:29; Romans 12:9-21; 15:25-27). The Great Commission tells us to win people to Christ, baptize them in the Trinity, and then teach them about the Christian experience.

Keep focused, and think clearly about what the Word of God teaches. Be careful what you do in the name of missions. Be faithful.
