Christ Arrested

AIM: To show the conduct and behavior of our Lord in the midst of turmoil and in the shadow of the cross.

INTRODUCTION:

1. Judas Iscariot was indwelt by Satan only hours before, during the time that immediately followed the last supper in the upper room.

2. In the mean time, our Lord has taken His disciples with Him to watch while He prayed in the Garden of Gethsemane.

3. As He finished His season of prayer Judas leads a contingent of armed men into the garden area to place the Lord Jesus Christ under arrest.

4. Let's review the entire ugly episode as we examine:

1A. THE RESORT (John 18.2)

2A. THE RECEPTION (Matthew 26.49)

3A. THE RESPONSE (Luke 22.48)

4A. THE REACTION (John 18.4-11)

1B. From Christ, a question
2B. From the Enemy, overwhelming
3B. From Simon Peter, rash behavior

5A. THE REMOVAL (John 18.12)

CONCLUSION:

1. Why did He not resist? Why did He not flee certain death at the hands of His enemies?
2. Because He came to die. He is the Lamb slain from the foundation of the world.
3. Why did Peter react? He did not properly understand. He saw death as a defeat.

4. Why did men fall back as they were "slain in the Spirit?" They were repelled from the presence of God. You see, His children and servants fall forward in the presence of God. Only His enemies fall backward in His presence.

NOTE: See Matthew 26.47-56; Mark 14.43-53; Luke 22.47-53; John 18.2-12
